Features

They have a spheroidal shape, slightly flattened at the poles and a smooth or slightly wrinkled peel, orange in color with a maximum of 30% green color. The aroma is intense and persistent. Hesperidium is apyrene, with a tolerance of up to 5% of fruits containing no more than three seeds.

Article 1
Name
The Protected Geographical Indication (I.G.P.) Clementine of the Gulf of Taranto is reserved for the fruits of clementines deriving from the species C. clementine Hort. ex Tanaka, indicated in the following Art. 2, which meet the conditions and requirements established by regulation (EEC) n.2081 / 92 and indicated in this production specification.
The clementines in question are intended to be supplied to the consumer exclusively in the fresh state and must be produced within the territory of the municipalities of the province of TARANTO indicated in art. 3 of this specification.

Article 2
Variety
The Protected Geographical Indication (I.G.P.) Clementines of the Gulf of Taranto designates the clementines referable to the following cultivars and clonal selections: Municipality, Fedele, Precoce di Massacra (or Spinoso), Grosso Puglia, ISA, SRA 63, SRA 89.

Article 3
Production area
The production area of ​​the Clementines of the Gulf of Taranto includes the entire territory of the municipalities of Palagiano, Massafra, Ginosa, Castellaneta, Palagianello, Taranto and Statte.

Article 4
Cultivation characteristics
The Clementine cultivation system of the Gulf of Taranto, referred to in this specification, must be the one traditionally adopted within the area delimited in the previous Art.3 and provides the following techniques:
a) Pruning is practiced every year in late spring, it is aimed at enhancing the balance between the vegetative and productive function, with limited cuts especially in the early years.
The form of training is that of a globe - vase.
b) Fertilization is always based on the state of fertility of the soil, following appropriate analyzes carried out every three years.
The basic fertilization is practiced in winter - spring with liquid and / or solid fertilizers and integrated with the vegetative restart with micro - meso and macroelements. Foliar fertilization, plant regulators and fertigation also apply.
e) Irrigation is practiced in almost all periods of the rig, in the absence of rains. The most used method is the drip or gush method, direct and far from the projection of the crown, to avoid possible attacks of marciumf1 in the collar area.
d) The tillage works are for the control of weeds, the burial of fertilizers and the reduction of the loss of water from the soil by evaporation.
e) Antiparasitic treatments are practiced with plant protection products based on active ingredients registered for citrus fruits.
For admission to the I.G.P. the new plants must be built well drained basements.
Windbreaks (live or dead) are allowed for the protection of the crop in the different phases.
Without prejudice to the pre-existing sixths of plant which have a density from 350 to 750 plants / ha, in new plants the density must not exceed n0 500 plants / ha. Dynamic sixth implants with different densities are allowed, up to a maximum of 25 years of age.
The maximum unit production allowed for clementines is set at 50t / ha.
The new plants must be built exclusively with grafted plants, compliant with the CE quality standards on the marketing of the propagation material.
The new citrus plants must be made using Citras aurantium L., commonly known as bitter orange or melange, as the exclusive graft holder.
The collection of the fruits must be done by hand, with the use of scissors, avoiding that the fruits are deteriorated. The fruits must be collected dry, without leaves or with some leaves. Fruits without a glass (rosette) are excluded from the I.G.P. De-greening technique is not allowed.
The use of waxes and / or preservative products allowed by the legislation of the country to which the fruit is intended, and as such, acting exclusively outside the skin, without altering the flavor and smell of each clementine is allowed.

Article 5
Controls
The plants suitable for the production of the I.G.P Clementine del Golfo diTaranto, are registered in a special list, activated, kept and updated by the control body, which is required to check, also through appropriate inspections, the requirements required for registration in the List. The technical checks will be carried out by a control body that meets the requirements of the EN45011 standards.
The producers who intend to put the product on the market with the Clementine Protected Geographical Indication of the Gulf of Taranto, are required to present the cadastral details for the identification of the same citrus groves, surface, sixth and year of planting to the Control Body chosen. The owners of the citrus groves registered in the list who intend to market their product with the Clementine Protected Geographical Indication of the Gulf of Taranto, must comply with the procedures indicated in the control plan prepared by the Control Body chosen and approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

Article 6.
Consumer characteristics
The Clementine Protected Geographical Indication of the Gulf of Taranto must respond, in addition to the requirements set by the common quality standards in force, to the following characteristics:
- Shape: spheroidal - slightly flattened at the poles;
- Peel: smooth or slightly wrinkled orange color with a maximum of 30% green color;
- Color of the pulp: orange;
- Minimum size: 6 (43/52 mm);
- Minimum juice content: 40% of the fruit weight, obtained by pressing with a hand press;
- Aroma: intense and persistent;
- Maturation ratio: minimum 6: 1, obtained from the ratio between the soluble solids content expressed in degrees Brix and the titratable acids expressed in acid
citric acid;
- Apirene, with the presence of a maximum of 5% of clementines containing at least three seeds.

Article 7
Designation and presentation
The Clementines of the Gulf of Taranto must be released for consumption:
- in sealed packages weighing up to 3 kg, on which the logo of the name described below must be reported;
- in unsealed packages, exceeding 3 kg up to a maximum of 25 kg, with the logo of the denomination described below affixed to at least 90% of the fruit contained in the package.
It is forbidden to use adjectives that enhance the commercial characteristics and express further commercial evaluations.
The colors of the packaging, as well as the graphics used, must be designed and made in such a way as to appear easily identifiable even from a distance.
Grouped on one side of the packaging, all the indications required by current legislation and by this specification must appear.
In particular, on the packs, the word Clementine from the Gulf of Taranto must appear in clear and easily distinguishable from any other indication, at least twice as important as all the other indications.
Immediately below the aforementioned indications, the following must be indicated: Protected Geographical Indication.
The use of indications that refer to: names, company names, private brands with identification code is allowed, provided they do not mislead the consumer or enhance the characteristics of the fruit.
The identification data of the packer (name, company name and address) and the origin of the product must always appear together with the other mandatory indications provided for by the quality standards in force. mention of the company or fraction from which the agrami come is allowed.
The INE mark must be reported on productions destined for third countries.
The graphic symbol relating to the artistic image of the specific and unique logo, to be used in inseparable combination with the Protected Geographical Indication, is circular, consisting of two concentric circles of Pantone356CV green color.
The inscription: PROTECTED GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION is inserted in the space between the two circles, in the same color as Pantoneverde 356CV.
In the central part you can see the blue sky, Pantone 306CV, an intense orange colored fruit, Pantone orange 021 CV, with peduncle and green leaves, Pantone 356 CV. Below, under the image of the fruit, the inscription Clementine of the Gulf of Taranto is shown, made in orange colors, Pantoneorange 021 CV.
Between the two circles, at the bottom, we read in green color, Pantone 356 CV, the abbreviation I.G.P.
